X-URL: http://www.xensei.com/users/zug/homepage/johnpage.html Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Status: R Content-Length: 2385 My fellow graphics groupies here in the lab love getting trashed on Zima, the malt liquor marketed towards whites that tastes like citrus seltzer (oops, dangling modifier!). They want to have Zima sponsor the lab - all of us would wear Zima stuff all the time and have links to http://www.zima.com/ in our web pages. I don't think this a good idea for many reasons. 1. Zima is unnatural. Beer is the way to go (or tequila, or even vodka in a pinch) 2. After getting drunk on Zima, they never have the balls to embrace their geekness and come back to the lab and post to alt.drunken.bastards, but they wear free t-shirts from SIGGRAPH all the time. 3. The zima web page has stuff like "Sharks bite! Jets rule! Graffiti gives you the opportunity to post to the rest of the Tribe. See, the whole idea here is to form this community of users, interact with each other, share Zima stories, and maybe, just maybe take over the world someday." -and- October 19, 1995 Halloween "I coulda swore you said Parrot costume!" Alexandria stood laughing in her Pirate costume. "Do you know how tough it was finding this stupid thing?" Duncan flapped his wings in the mirror. "We've got about zero chance of winning best couple's costume, Dunc." 4. "We are proud to announce we no longer serve Zima" - a bar in Atlanta I drank at on St. Patricks day. 5. Zug is much funnier. The problem is that zug is going to have to sweeten the pot if they are going to beat out Zima for official Graphics Lab sponsor, and have their logo on the back of the "Good work - I'll kill you last" t-shirts. I know humor isn't as big business as citrus malt liquor, but I know it's big enough that you can provide a few well chosen and well placed gifts that would swing public opinion. Maybe an SGI Onyx Reality Engine 2 or Impact? Or maybe you could just spread around a few Indigos? I can just see the snazzy zug-URL-across-the-shoulderblades shirts on all our backs at SIGGRAPH now... Loring "They call me Slush Puppie" Holden PS- Take a look at the graphics people page - the biggest zima fans have pictures that look an awfully lot like Beavis and Butthead... http://www.cs.brown.edu/research/graphics/people/people/html And for the cc-ed ones, zug is at: http://www.xensei.com/users/zug/zugmain/zugmain.html Quotes from Zug in my quotes page at: http://www.cs.brown.edu/people/lsh/quotes.txt From MShower@aol.com Fri Oct 27 13:48:13 1995 From: MShower@aol.com Date: Fri, 27 Oct 1995 13:47:40 -0400 To: lsh@cs.brown.edu, jsw@cs.brown.edu, sjt@cs.brown.edu, njg@cs.brown.edu, rj@cs.brown.edu, scd@cs.brown.edu, bcz@cs.brown.edu, lem@cs.brown.edu, mmw@cs.brown.edu, twm@cs.brown.edu cc: MShower@aol.com Subject: ZUG vs. Zima Content-Length: 1720 On behalf of ZUG, I'd like to thank Loring for recommending us as the official Brown University Graphics Lab sponsor. Send those right on over (I'll take one, and the first 2 labbers to show sufficient knowledge of the Zug with get the others). Loring Holden Brown University Department of Computer Science 115 Waterman Street, Box 1910 Providence, RI 02912 No COD, please. Unless that means we won't get anything, in which case I guess you can send them COD to cover postage, unless it includes the price of the shirts, in which case you can forget it. We're in academia, companies *give* us computers. One guy went to SIGGRAPH and came home with 59 free t-shirts. We really DO think there's such a thing as a free lunch. Or you can just take the hour and drive down 95. You'll get to see the, ah, stuff we're working on, and you'll save on postage, although you'll loose on gas money. Really - I'll wear whatever shirt you give me, as long as it covers up my pale geek colored skin. Or at least include me on your Incoming Mail page. > **Sorry, used 5 1/4" floppies only.
